Derrick + Janie were married at the UC Botanical gardens and I just loved their wedding! The two high school sweethearts were so relaxed the whole day and I loved all of their personal DIY elements from their sunglasses to the cake.  My favorite of them all was Janie’s dress that her mom made.  It was absolutely gorgeous.  Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post to hear what Derrick and Janie had to say about their wedding day and you can also head over to Ruffled where their wedding is featured today for more details. Words from the Couple //

On June 27th the Wedding Day we had 70 guests at UC Berkley Botanical Garden. We wanted to have a simple and sweet Garden Wedding that showed off our creative personalities. Most of the details were a Bee/Honey theme. Having the ceremony in a redwood grove was ideal for us because we both have a great pride in the beauty of California. It just seemed like this little magical place. We wanted to have the guest be a part of ceremony so we had everyone lay a flower around the site. Janie’s Grandfather became ordained so he could marry them. At the ceremony site the guest were greeted with the favor (Janie’s favorite part of the wedding) sunglasses with the names of the bride and groom. (inkhead.com) Derrick’s favorite moment was taking a picture with everyone in the sunglasses.

The reception in featured a Cotton Candy Marker, Slushie Machine (both SF Party), and Juke Box (videoamusement.com). It was catered by Barbara Llewellyn, and the food was amazing! They also did the cake, which was served with dark chocolate covered honey comb, and a custom Honey flavor speciality for the event from Tucker’s Ice Cream. The Cake topper was made by the Bride and featured special things from the couples 7 year history. Also a detail that was special to the couple was Janie had a grater from their High School Prom wrapped around her bouquet. She had no idea that Derrick had kept it all these years.

The dress was made by her Mom it had always been her dream to make it. Janie designed the dress a gold sequin gown with a romantic cream sheer over the top. The bride made the hair pieces. The shoes were Ked’s and not a Boot! * the bride broke her foot on the way to a hair consolation weeks before the wedding (you can see it in the engagement photos). The groom’s suit was Michael Kors, and his shoes are Jack Purcell. Janie’s engagement ring is from One Stone found on esty.com. The other jewelry she wore is from her personal vintage collection, and Juicy Couture. The heart sunglasses are also Juicy Couture.
